Concrete outdoor furniture.
It might be a hard material, but the amazing smooth look and feel that can still be achieved. I’m a big fan of outdoor furniture made from concrete. They will look amazing for eons no matter what the weather throws at them.

Footwear for garden visiting
Garden visiting is one of my favourite past times. Footwear required should be comfortable but there is no need bring on dull. Quite the oppostive, there’s always room for bling and glamour. The blue shoes below is a result of a collaboration between Manolo Blahnik and Birkenstock. To the right ballerina shoes from Dior.

Cutting edge
I mention rattan further down in this post, a material which has a traditional feel about it. On the opposite side of the garden decor design spectrum is cutting edge. This look is all about bold design, high tech materials and a distinctively modern vibe. Both styles have their own merits.

Agapanthus
Agapanthus is a plant favoured by many garden designers. Shiny green leaves with majestic blooms hovering high above oozing exotic clime. The blueish/purplish coloured kind is most commonly seen. I quite prefer white, or why not be daring and try black? In Northern Europe they are best grown in pots and they need at least 6-8 hours of sunshine a day. In winter store in a cool place with plenty of light (not below +5C).

Lean To Greenhouses
Very handy constructions if you want to start the growing season early, not to mention postpone the winter season. Put against a southfacing wall and watch them plants thrive.

Chunky rattan
Don’t think anyone with an interest in outdoor decor has missed the rattan trend. There are over 600 species of rattan and they have been used for making furniture in Southeast Asia for centuries. I like the chunky rattan look – make sure your choice is from a sustainable source.
