This time of the year it’s like you want to hold up a Stop sign, putting time on hold. Blooms and vegetation in general are just exploding in front of our very eyes. As we get on with our busy lives it feels like blooms are here one day and gone the next. So I’ve decided to do a few pauses at regular intervals in the next couple of months taking time to look around and see what catches my attention. What blooming is going on now?

I find that a great place to check out plants is to head to a botanical garden. There you can usually find plants a little bit different. Even better, the plants come with name tags (often, but not always which is a bit frustrating) so you know exactly what genus and specie you are looking at. If you like you can take note of the name, perhaps purchase and plant at home (think right plant in the right location). Or you can just take note and keep in mind for a later occasion.

The plants shown here all prefer a sunny location, but require different soil conditions. The Dianthus and Cerastium, for example like fertile, well-drained soil that is alkaline. The Cerastium grow well in dry, sunny areas with poor soil. Having passed that info on, this post is not really intended as a lesson in plants, it’s all about appreciating blooms looking blooming fantastic right now. Enjoy this curated selection! Oh, and as a small footnote, I reside in an area roughly corresponding to USDA Zone 7a (Zone 2 in Sweden).
