Sheepskins are fab green room accessories

It’s not only getting darker in the evenings, but also cooler. That shouldn’t stop us from enjoying our green spaces. At least for a little bit. There will, in due course, come a time when you want to spend as little time as possible outdoors. But we are not there yet. The other evening I was sitting outside on the terrace with a glass of wine when I started to feel a bit cold. What to do? Actually felt like I had to dig deep to come up with an answer, it’s been a good summer and a while since I was cold at nite. So, get a blanket? An obvious answer. Then I thought about sheepskins; sheepskins are fab green room accessories. They look good, they are warm and they are so nice to snuggle into.

Sheepskins are a by-product of the meat industry. Once upon a time, sheep were kept for the wool, it was a huge industry in Europe for hundreds of years. When sheep are now slaughtered, their skin become superfluous. They only have value after they’ve been tanned. Quite incredibly, fewer than 1 in 200 are tanned (0.045%), the rest are dealt with as waste.

White is the usual colour of most sheepskin found in the shops. There are other colours out there, however. These are some that I like:

  1. BlueThe Swedish Wooden Horse Company. Made from eco certified premium Australian fleeces which have been dyed and carefully stitched together to obtain a larger size -perfect for a sofa or floor
